| Selecting the Right Franchisees If it is possible for you to unequivocally select the “perfect” Franchisee without any reservations you should join John Edwards or Medium with your own clairvoyance show. Being 100% certain that any particular person will succeed as a Franchisee is, I would suggest, impossible. You might be lucky once but never twice. Perhaps we should differentiate between “right” Franchisee and “perfect” Franchisee. Most systems might have amongst its ranks a “perfect” Franchisee. But how would you define his/her qualities and how those qualities became manifestations of this person’s personality. Every person is an individual because of their genealogical make up and their nurturing. Even clones, we believe, could be fundamentally different to their original persona depending upon the family, schooling, peer and cultural circumstances and any environmental differences during their formative years (0-100). So, I would suggest that a “perfect” Franchisee is a fluke of nature and impossible to predict until installed and monitored through every conceivable circumstance and vagary of the franchise system. A “right” Franchisee is a Franchisee who performs within the guidelines of the system, complies with the formula, is friendly, co-operative, compliant and is proof that if you abide by the rules – you too can be successful. The “right” Franchisee at the launch of your system may well be the “wrong” Franchisee once you are established. Finding a “bad” Franchisee is much easier. Although still not a precise science. You can form a list of all the attributes required in an individual that would indicate a propensity towards success in your business but someone may fit all the criteria and still collapse in a mental heap given the right mix of pressure. Consider the type of Franchisee who would be prepared to take the risk of ‘1st cab off the rank’ and the type of Franchisee who will not proceed until they has contacted every existing Franchisee to assess their chances of success. These 2 people are poles apart. If you are establishing your franchise and you define the right Franchisee as having certain qualities, attributes, skills and attitude, you may well never sell your first franchise. This is a vital and complex system and requires face-to-face consultation with Enterprise 21. Contact us now to for a confidential ‘obligation-free’ discussion of your requirements.
