Case Study 1 – Meet George…

…who had been a real estate agent with the Professionals. He looked great in his red blazer, collar and tie and he had been driving a nice, newish Falcon. His boss in the agency thought he was a nice guy, but George never really got going. Lots of talk, but he always dropped in a heap before he was successful.

One day in training someone remarked that he must have felt quite good dressed as he was and driving his new car and looking fantastic as a real estate salesman.

“No,” he replied, “I always feel like a fraud. I’m really just a welder from Maryborough”.

It transpired that George came from a fiercely proud working-class family and when he tried to better himself, his family (particularly his father), ridiculed him and told him he would never succeed as he was really a welder from Maryborough. Every time he was going to close a deal or improve his status he would mentally collapse in a heap.

We could delve into his past and try to discover the source of his father’s attitude and the effect that it had on George’s psyche. Alternatively, we can decide to reprogram his subconscious.

“I am a highly successful businessman and everything I attempt I succeed at.”

George typed this message out on large sheets of bold-coloured paper, hung them up in predominant places and read them aloud.

The changes happened within a week. George stood taller, acted as a mature and professional business person and six months later he was enjoying a very healthy income and an enviable lifestyle.

Case Study 2 – Then there’s Kerry…

…whose very low opinion of herself had been growing since childhood. She had an ethnic heritage and she saw herself as the stereotypical embodiment of her race. When she did something wrong she would call herself some disparaging names and excuse her failings because of her background. She also hated salesmen (one had ripped her off when she bought her first car) and speaking in public was an activity to far alien even to consider.

“I am a very nice person and I love to help other people and people love me in return.”
“When I speak in public people listen to my every word because they know that what I have to say is important.”
“I love to help people and to do this I sometimes have to help them make a positive purchasing decision.”
“I am a highly successful businesswoman.”

All of the above are now true and her business life is also reflected in her domestic life, where she uses affirmations in her roles as both mother and spouse.

There is a little more to changing your life than merely writing and reading affirmations, but not much.

Stop press!

At our regional meeting last night we had a surprise speaker and it was ‘Kerry’. She looked a million dollars, did a fabulous speech and told us that she now has 25 agents working for her, is traveling interstate and has bought a new car. Pretty good going for someone with a super inferiority complex!
